Michael Scales says the Freedom Newspaper contributes to the furtherence of democracy in Gambia!

By Michael Scales, UK

Dear Sir,

I am pleased that your website has migrated to another hosting company. It is an important move.I believe the Freedom Newspaper is the most important contribution to democracy and freedom of speech The Gambia has earned since the papers brief inception.I have in my own capacity ,endevoured to show His Excellancy The President that your work and that of your friends and colleges are in fact the greatest potential asset to the furtherence of the productive life of The Gambia and its people. My appeals to him privately, clearly state that my belief that should Gambian journalists be allowed to take there rightful place on Gambian soil..the result would further the course of Humanity and Brotherhood and do much to reunite the many factions that seek to destroy the very fabric of Gambian Society.Such a move would require much self discipline and intelligent reporting and personal reconsideration of Journalists, as to how to promote the best interests of The Gambia and its President and his Government, without compromise to your craft. The corresponding signals that this would send to the rest of Africa and indeed the Free World would signal the rallying call for change and unity amongst all the great African nations.I have privately praised the President for his strength and courage and asked if he possess the wisdom to consider such a brave and positive movement. The amnesty that i have respectfully requested has hitherto gone without reply.......

I have given much consideration to the idea from Alieu Badara Sowe, who on the events of April 10th and 11th 2000 and other matters, .....called for a truth and reconcilliation forum to allow a healing process to commence.

My view is that such a move at such an insecure time in West Africas history, would possibly weaken its already fragile peace and cause only more tears and self recrimination. However i am aware of the bold statue that embraces the approach to Banjul of a soldier carrying a child.I would be very happy to provide some assistance to honour this symbal in rememberance and reconcilliation, to the acknowledgement of the tragic loss of so many innocent lives.Gambia must move forward to banish its failings to its people, but never forget...... and reunite under one flag for the benefit of all......In Peace Prosperity and Progress.
If this moving target is to be ridiculed once again for such a compassionate and deeply considered suggestion,My answer is that I love the Gambia more than my own reputation. Thankyou...once again for your valuable time. Michael.

Editors note: Thanks our good friend Michael Scales for the complements. The Freedom Newspaper is here to stay and we want to thank our former host Pointclicktec headed by its dynamic and committed President Malick Khan. Thanks to Mr.Khan, the migration process was possible. Mr.Khan is still supportive to us because he provides the Freedom Newspaper with free technical support, anytime needed. The Freedom Newspaper is now being hosted by a US parent hosting company. The site is up and running thanks to our brother Mr.Khan....Business resumes as usual.
